Behind the Music:
“Funiculì, Funiculà” is a famous Italian song written in 1880 by journalist Peppino Turco and set to music by composer Luigi Denza. It was originally composed to celebrate the opening of the first funicular cable car on Mount Vesuvius. The song quickly gained popularity, becoming a classic example of Neapolitan music. Despite its joyful tune, it’s often mistakenly thought of as a traditional folk song, but it was indeed written for a commercial purpose.
