Behind the instrument:

The celesta is a unique percussion instrument resembling a small upright piano, known for its ethereal sound. Invented in the late 19th century by the French instrument maker Victor Mustel, it features metal plates struck by hammers, producing a soft, bell-like tone. Frequently used in orchestral and chamber music, the celesta gained popularity through its prominent role in Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” Its delicate timbre enhances various genres, from classical to film scores, adding a magical quality to compositions. Despite its niche status, the celesta remains cherished by musicians for its distinctive and enchanting sound
