Behind the music:

Cécile Chaminade was a French composer and pianist, born in 1857. Known for her melodic and accessible compositions, she gained popularity mainly through her piano pieces and songs. Despite the era’s gender biases, Chaminade’s music won her international fame and a loyal following, earning her the Legion of Honour in 1913, a rare honor for a woman at that time. She composed over 400 pieces, with the “Concertino for Flute,” Op. 107, remaining a staple in flute repertoire. Chaminade’s work continues to be celebrated for its charm and lyrical quality.
