Behind the music:
The yangqin is a traditional Chinese hammered dulcimer with a trapezoidal soundbox and numerous strings. Originating from Persia, it was introduced to China during the Ming Dynasty. Played with lightweight bamboo beaters, the yangqin is notable for its shimmering, delicate sound. It is a staple in Chinese folk music and often features in ensembles, including the modern Chinese orchestra. Over time, its design has evolved, accommodating more strings and a richer tonal range, enhancing its versatility in both solo and group performances.
